Route-planning experts komoot have just released a handy new 3D map feature for their desktop site. Much like their ‘Trail View’ feature, these new controls enable you to better visualise – and more accurately prepare for – the landscapes ahead.
Picture yourself sitting at home dreaming of bagging your first Munro in the Scottish Highlands. Whether your first thoughts are about kit or about the route itself, it can all seem a bit daunting when you’re not sure what to expect. That’s where the 3D map feature comes in.
Whilst checking out routes that have already been vetted by avid hikers and bikers, you can now also immerse yourself virtually in the three-dimensional landscape. This helps you get a real sense of the terrain you’ll encounter, as well as helping you decide which route you might prefer to take.
Along with getting you more excited for your adventure this in turn will also help you make good kit choices, find potential wild campings spots, and allow you to plan out and take any safety precautions.
