About Us

With its inception in 1999, Outdoors Magic became one of the world’s first websites devoted to covering outdoor pursuits and to this day it serves information and inspiration to a global audience of hikers, trail runners, bikepackers and general outdoor enthusiasts.

We tend to talk about gear a lot on our pages – more specifically we do a lot of reviewing – and we pride ourselves on having a highly qualified team of testers with numerous thru-hikes, alpine ascents and Fastest Known Times between us.

Got a question about something we’ve reviewed or covered? Just drop us a message, we’d be happy to help.

The Team

Editor: Will Renwick
[email protected]
OM editor Will is somewhat obsessed with hiking and trail running, more specifically hiking and trail running in Wales. He’s explored just about every long distance trail within the country and last year he even managed to climb all 189 of its mountains in one solo, unsupported and blister-plagued run.

Deputy Editor: Jordan Tiernan
[email protected]

Our Deputy Editor Jordan loves a bit of backcountry skiing. In fact, as this is being typed, he’ll be at around 4000 metres in the Alps with none other than the legendary skier and alpinist that is Sam Anthamatten. When Jordan’s not skiing, he spends his time staring out of his window in Perth waiting to see snowfall on his nearest Munro.

Contributing Editor: Jack Clayton
[email protected]
Joining our sister mag, Mpora, as an Associate Editor in 2015, Jack has been that title’s Editor since November 2018. He loves getting outdoors, going on big walks with his mates, and considers retro waterproof jackets – in particular – to be works of high art. When Jack’s not busy creating memes, you might find him exploring the green spaces in and around London or ticking off some bucket list adventures. Ask him about whether he enjoyed his ski trips to Hokkaido and Utah and, well, you’re unlikely to hear the end of it.

Creative Lead: Ryan Van Kesteren
Ryan is a chuck-it-all-in-the-boot kind of guy. Whether it’s snowboarding, climbing, scrambling or mountain biking, he’ll do whatever the conditions are best for. You’ll even find him on a BMX from time to time.

Our Contributors

James Forrest
James has been a regular contributor to Outdoors Magic for almost five years now and he’s been responsible for many of our more niche group tests. Lightweight tent pegs, quilt systems, nutritious backpacking food – this guy loves anything that’s going to keep his pack weight as low as possible on his next FKT attempt.

Jazz Noble
A regular contributor to Outdoors Magic for over two years now, Jazz is our expert on all things bikepacking – you might have read her account of cycling the King Alfred’s Way not so long ago. She’s currently gearing up to take on the komoot Women’s Rally in the Canary Islands.

Matt Jones
Matt is another core member of our test team. He’s been reviewing gear for various outdoor magazines for almost ten years now and has a preference for durable, long-lasting items to suit the kind of hiking, scrambling and fishing he has on his doorstep in Snowdonia

Emily Woodhouse
A fun fact about Emily: she holds a Guinness World Record for climbing the most 3000m mountains in one week (that’s 13, in case you were wondering). She’s also a
Mountain Leader and has been a Mountain Rescue volunteer since 2016.
