Route planning and navigation app komoot has just opened up an important feature to its UK users, with the option to now search for and follow local routes uploaded by other users.

Over the last few years, komoot has established itself as one the most popular route planning and following apps for outdoor enthusiasts, but the potential to browse and follow routes created by other users has only been available to those in Dutch and German-speaking communities.

That’s finally changed, with 1000’s of ‘Tours’ now readily available across the UK for people to browse and follow. These can all be filtered by location, sport type, duration and difficulty, therefore getting rid of the necessity to plan a route from scratch or follow one you have previously created.

Recommended Tours are the result of a smart technology that analyses the most popular routes and Highlights from the komoot community. Highlights are tips and recommendations added to the komoot map by local experts to help others plan their best adventures. Komoot compares a wide range of factors such as way type and surface types, activity types, relevant highlights and even imagery, to produce route recommendations that make exploring even more convenient.

The software on the komoot mobile app can even automatically adjust the results so that if you want to follow a Recommended Tour in your local area, the app will generate a route that can lead you from your current location to the nearest point of the Tour.
