Cyber Monday 2020 | Find the Best Outdoor Gear Deals

Our pick of the best bargains over at Webtogs and Blackleaf this Black Friday

Black Friday, which falls on 27 November this year, offers up a great chance to get some huge bargains on the latest outdoor gear and equipment. It’s when some of the biggest outdoor retailers will be giving the best outdoor gear deals you’ll find all year round. So if you’re after Christmas gifts and want a cut-price pair of hiking socks for a stocking filler, or you’re looking to treat yourself to one of the latest down jacket releases, this is the best time for it.

Our partner retailer, online gear specialists Webtogs along with their sister store Blackleaf, are both offering up to 30% discounts this week in the lead up to Black Friday and there really are some excellent deals. Here’s a quick introduction to some of the highlights.

Fjällräven Expedition Pack Down Hoodie

Down to £220.49 from £275

This was one of only thirty items to make it into our Green Gear Guide 2021. It’s a down jacket with a conscience, made only using responsibly and ethically sourced down and without the need for any of those nasty PFC chemicals.

Our reviewer said: “It’s a high spec down jacket, one that I’ve found to be a cosy and reliable insulation piece. Despite being listed as part of Fjällräven’s ‘Polar’ range, this is better described as a mid-weight down jacket. It’s not one that’s going to be your main insulation piece on an expedition to the North Pole but it’ll certainly do the job during an autumn wild camp in the Lake District or as part of a layering system during a Scottish winter.”

Merrell Chameleon 8 Mid GTX

Down to £119.79 from £150

We can vouch for the Chameleon 8. In fact, it’s an item that features in this year’s Outdoor 100, our massive guide to the best products on the market. It was the comfortable fit that particularly impressed our testers, that, along with the lightweight but sturdy feel of the outsole. We’d say £120 is a decent price for this eighth offering in Merrell’s popular Chameleon family.

On Cloudrock Waterproof Men’s Hiking Boot

Down to £162.29 from £180

Another pair of boots to have made it into our Outdoor 100 product guide. As you can see in the picture, these lightweight and waterproof hiking boots feature the same Cloudtec outsole technology that’s featured across all of On’s running shoes. The aim of the game here is shock absorption, with the little ‘clouds’ providing bucket loads of cushioning on hard trails. There’s a good amount of grip too, so you can expect these to bite into all but the muddiest of trails.

Rab Infinity Lite Down Jacket

Down to £325.29 from £350

If you’re looking for a high performance down jacket for the colder seasons ahead of us, this recently launched item from Rab is certainly worth considering. Not only is it filled with a quality goose down (generally accepted to be the best type) but it also boasts Gore’s impressive Infinium, a tough but super light fabric that effectively blocks out wind without causing any loss of breathability.

Mountain Equipment Zeno Waterproof Jacket

Down to £111.29 from £130

This is one of those jackets that’s light but without feeling flimsy or skimping too much on features. It has the same Alpine Fit that Mountain Equipment use across some of their more technical mountaineering jackets and will offer dependable wet weather protection thanks to its 2.5-layer waterproof fabric. Both the red and black version are available with discounts over on Webtogs.

Osprey Kestrel 68 Mens Hiking Backpack

Down to £129.29 from £170

OM editor Will is a big fan of Osprey’s Kestrel series of packs. Here’s what he had to say about the version he tested in a trip to the Norwegian Fjords: “I’ve used a variety of Osprey packs for the long-distance walking I’ve done over the years, including the Osprey Stratos 50, the previous Kestrel, and their Atmos AG as well. This, I think, is the best of the lot. The back system and load carrying on this new Kestrel really is excellent.”

The 68 is the biggest version of the Kestrel, offering a capacity that should easily cater for long distance hikes and even any wilderness expeditions. Check out our full review of the Osprey Kestrel for more on what you can expect from this.

Montane Pac Plus Women’s Waterproof Jacket

Down to £147.79 from £185

This is a very similar item to the Mountain Equipment jacket that’s also featured in this round up. Expect a lightweight but reliable build, a waterproof fabric that’ll get you through any weather conditions, a decent amount of breathability that’ll facilitate strenuous hiking and then, as an added bonus, you can stash it away in its own pocket when you don’t need it.

Black Diamond Cirque Shell Men’s Windproof Jacket

Down to £144.29 from £160

We love a good softshell jacket here at Outdoors Magic. On those mild days where there’s a cold wind and a bit of light rain, it’s the kind of layer that’ll give you the protection you need but without causing you to get as clammy as you would in a waterproof jacket. Basically, it’s the perfect kind of layer for high tempo activities – be that scrambling, climbing or ski touring.

All of the above applies to the Black Diamond Cirque Shell, it offers just the right amount of protection but with that nice stretchiness and breathability to it that you don’t get from a waterproof layer.

Haglöfs Summit Hybrid Men’s Fleece

Down to £107.49 from £160

This is the kind of mid-layer insulator to turn to for those activities where temperature regulation is key. It’s an item that’ll trap warmth but that’ll also let hot, damp air escape, ultimately keeping you nice and toasty but without any clamminess. With that in mind, it’ll be perfect for any cold weather climbs or even some winter trail runs as well.

Thanks to its light weight, low profile and compressible design, this’ll also be ideal as something to wear as part of an insulation system on any super cold days.

Rab Valiance Jacket

Down to £265.79 from £310Not only is this a lofty and cosy down jacket but it’s a lofty and cosy down jacket that’ll shield you from even the most torrential of downpours. With its Pertex Quantum outer fabric, fully taped seams and 800 fill power down, this could well be the ultimate jacket for seeing out this winter – whether that’s out on the hill, walking the dog, or surviving a winter lockdown.
