Joby Handypod | Review

Take your outdoor photography to the next level with Joby’s extremely handy helper

Why We Chose The Joby Handypod: Practical, portable, and easy-to-use addition to a photographer’s arsenal.

Let’s be honest. Everyone fancies themselves as a bit of a photographer these days. Even you, reading this now, have probably, at some time or other, pointed and clicked your camera at some nice scenery and thought to yourself, while looking at the shot back, “Yeah, this could definitely work as a Nat Geo cover.” There’s no shame in that. We’ve all done it.

This rise of the wannabe-pro photographers stems from the fact that cameras themselves have never been more accessible, more user-friendly. Even DSLRs, which used to be solely the territory of the experts, have adapted to the point that even Joe Average can pick one up and get some decent shots if conditions suit.

“This tough, portable, tripod is incredibly versatile.”

Looking ever so slightly like the ‘Fighting Machines’ from War of the Worlds, the Joby Handypod is a handy little helper you never knew you needed until just now. Weighing just 185g, which is roughly half the weight of a can of soup, the Handypod is absolutely perfect for content creators searching for that lightweight, portable, and easy-to-use support system which can take their image-capturing to the next level.

Considering it costs just under £23, this product brings a lot to the table. There’s a super comfortable ergonomic rubber grip, that really does fits into the curvature of your hand nicely, a push button locking mechanism for portrait positioning, and a surprisingly solid overall feel for something so lightweight and affordable. The push button isn’t for the weak-thumbed but it does add to the overall impression that this tripod is a truly durable bit of kit. Nothing flimsy about it.

From chunky DSLRs to tiny wee compacts, and everything in between, this tough, portable, tripod is incredibly versatile. It can also be used with GoPros, flashes, microphones, and a variety of Joby mounts. This product is a pint-sized friend for adventurers dead set on capturing their excursions’ best moments. You’ll love it.

Tester’s Verdict

Will Renwick, Outdoors Magic Editor

“Simple and functional, this has been a great addition to my backpack. For too long, I’d been trying to balance my little compact on rocks or twigs, having to trim away grass in front of the lens or put up with wonky angles. I’d never go back to that now, not after discovering how convenient one of these Handypods makes things. As a long-distance hiker, I really liked the light weight and compact design of this as well. It’s definitely coming on my next trek.”

Trade Secrets

Paul Hill, Joby Marketing Staff

“The HandyPod is the go-to solution for budding creators who want a sleek and stable solution for building new content. Developed as a stable small tripod to mount your camera or accessory up to 1kg on, the HandyPod also features a comfortable handgrip that makes it a great handheld stabilizer for shooting videos. The easy to use ball head makes positioning your camera or phone a doddle. It is one of those products that just works!”
