Welcome to legendary mountain runner Kilian Jornet’s new world! The Salomon-sponsored athlete recently moved to northern Norway along with his equally talented partner, where he lives in the midst of some stunning mountain scenery – not a bad back garden…
The local test piece is something called the Seven Summits of Romsdalen, a 77km route with 9000m of elevation gain. And Kilian being Kilian sets out to tackle it in single day linking the mountain sections with running and skiing the rest.
Not only is the scenery spectacular, but it gives a fascinating insight into Jornet’s outlook and philosophy. You might be surprised to learn, for example, that the world’s greatest mountain runner doesn’t really view himself as a runner.
It’s just something he started doing to keep fit for climbing and skiing. Nor does he always succeed in completing his objectives first time. In fact, he says, around 50 per-cent of the time, he fails, and that’s a good thing.
Last but not least, you probably won’t be that surprised to discover that he likes suffering and he likes it a lot…
Great little video – enjoy!
Ricky Lightfoot Bonus
And as a bit of a bonus and rather closer to home, here’s a neat little video profile of Lakes-based Salomon runner Ricky Lightfoot who combines his running with his role as a full-time fire-fighter.
