Revolution Race GP ProTrousers | Review

These multifunctional hybrid trousers from fun-loving upstarts Revolution Race impressed our test team with their fit and functionality

Why We Chose The Revolution Race GP Pro Trousers: Superbly multifunctional, gloriously comfortable

If you’re a dog loving climber who enjoys a sailing trip as much as a peak-bagging raid or a fishing trip, you’ve probably got all manner of outdoor apparel fighting for space in your wardrobe. With the GP Pro trousers, Revolution Race have created a pair that are designed with multi-functionality at their heart. Built from weather resistant, stretchy materials, and sporting ventilating zippers and more pockets that you can shake a hiking pole at, the GP Pros might just be the only pair of trousers you need

Who Is The Revolution Race GP Pro Trousers For?

Well, everyone it seems. The GP Pro Trousers perform very well in all manner of situations, making them a superb choice for general activities in the outdoors, from walking the dog to going on a day hike in summer. Little touches like pockets for knee pads mean that they could even be used by skaters.

“These are both wind and water repellent”

Although weatherproof to a point, these walking trousers are water repellent rather than waterproof, so hikers heading out into driech conditions would need to add a waterproof layer over the top. Likewise, anyone eyeing up the hills and mountains in winter would benefit from trousers offering more insulation. However, for general outdoor use, there are few trousers that are as comfy and user-friendly as the GP Pros.

Features

With great pockets comes great versatility. The GP Pro Trousers feature two deep hand pockets and two zippered pockets on the thighs. The left thigh pocket is even specifically designed with your mobile phone in mind. Revolution Race don’t mind if its dog treats, wallets, compasses, navigation cards, or face masks that you stuff in these pockets; the point is, they’re there for you no matter where you are headed.

At the waist are belt loops, but you’ll obviously need your own belt to tighten things up. The bottom of the leg is adjustable with poppers and there’s even a boot hook to attach the trousers to your laces.

Materials

The GP Pro Trousers feature Revolution Race’s Hypershell reinforcements, making them both wind and water repellent. The groin, the inner thighs and the back of the knees are further reinforced by four-way stretch material, giving them excellent support. The stretch panels ventilate beautifully, giving you a very comfortable fit, while zippered ventilation panels mean you can open things up when you’re working hard on the trail. Importantly, the trousers are tight fitting but stretchy enough to give you excellent freedom of movement, which is why they work so well for a range of applications.

Tester’s Verdict

James Forrest, outdoors writer and gear expert

“Like a pair of super-sturdy Fjällräven trousers but at a much cheaper price-point, these hiking trousers feel utterly bombproof. They are quite heavy and thick with loads of reinforcements, and feel as strong as an ox: durable, robust and ready for the most rugged of terrain. I found them reasonably comfortable, despite the build, and the freedom of movement was still fine during a test hike up Rhinog Fawr in a wild corner of Snowdonia. The mesh side vents certainly helped as I got hotter too.

“All in all, the GPX Pro remind me of the kind of trousers a tradesman would wear – a carpenter or an electrician – with pockets galore and strong reinforcement patches to prevent wear and tear. For me, they’re almost too sturdy (why do you need so many reinforcements unless you’re planning on scuffing against sharp rocks constantly or bushwhacking through a jungle of brambles?) But, for many others, these might hit the spot perfectly: strong, long-lasting and mountain-ready.”
