Lizard Super Trek Sandal | Review

The ultimate trekking sandals? They might just be…

Why We Chose The Lizard Super Trek: Comfortable, grippy, quick-drying.

We reviewed Lizard’s Super Hike sandals for our Green Gear Guide at the end of 2021 and were big fans. These, we’d say, are actually even better. They’re designed for slightly more serious hikes and for handling some trickier terrain, with three point adjustment, a super grippy outsole and just all-round comfort too.

When choosing sandals for hiking you want them to be lightweight but sturdy, cushioned and comfortable. You want them to be grippy, you want them to be fresh-feeling and you want them to be quick drying too. These tick all those boxes.

Materials and Construction

The three point adjustment here, with a snap buckle on top and velcro around the ankle and at the toes, allows you to get a really precise custom fit here, so you can count on these holding your feet in place. The EVA foam footbed helps here too. There’s a little bit of padding across all of these straps, bringing a comfortable fit.

The EVA foam in the midsole, which is made from 30 per cent recycled content, contributes towards the fairly high stack height of 25mm at the heel and 17mm at the toes and this gives these sandals a nice, somewhat springy feel to them.

Then there’s the outsole which is made from Vibram’s Eco Step Rubber and boasts a fairly aggressive tread, with lugs that, by our estimation, are about 3mm deep.

Tester’s Verdict

Will Renwick, editor of Outdoors Magic

“I’ve long been partial to a bit of hiking in sandals. In the right conditions, they really do come into their own and can actually enhance the hike. I’ll tell you what though, after testing this pair, I won’t be going back to the two-strap Teva sandals I’ve been wearing over the years. There’s always been a bit of slippage in those if any moisture comes into the equation, but with this pair from Lizard there’s nothing of the sort.

“It’s probably the grip that has impressed me the most. They’ve held well on muddy slopes and do an impressive job on wet rock too – so they’re great for walks that involve coastal or river sections. They’ve got enough padding and cushioning to help your feet manage long distances too. I’ve hiked in these for whole days and not had any issues with soreness or rubbing.

“If you’re after advice on sizing, I’d say go with your usual. I’m almost always a UK size 10 and that size fitted me just fine.”
