Keen Howser III Slide | Review

It’s not just a slipper. It’s a slipper that knows no boundaries. Here's our verdict

Why we chose it: Very comfortable, good eco improvements

The Keen Howser III is kind of a weird concept; it’s basically a slipper that you can wear outside. But we’re completely and utterly sold by it – in fact, we challenge anyone to pull on a pair and not be. These things are super comfortable. So comfortable, and surprisingly practical, that they’re the kind of things you’ll end up wearing a heck of a lot, and not just in the living room or while taking the bins out, but for wearing at camp or around your touring van, or on a quiet weekend away at an airbnb in the countryside. If the weather’s been dry, we’d even be happy wearing these on the morning dog walk.

It’s all thanks to that outsole. It’s a kind of out-of-the-house style one that has a nice bit of traction to it along with plenty of cushioning.

Then there’s the eco aspect, because what we also like about these is that the upper is made from PET plastic – recycled plastic bottles, in other words. You can also rest assured that the anti-odour treatment used here is totally free from any eco-hazardous chemicals.

This year actually marks 10 years since the Howser was first created and this is now the third iteration of it, with not only the introduction of that recycled material but a thick fleece lining and new quick-cinch bungee for more of a wraparound, heat-locking fit. There’s also a removable, ergonomically-shaped footbed made from PU foam.

“Roll on winter…”

The version we tested was the slip-on but there’s also the option to get this in a shoe cut to lock the heel in. Expect the usual Keen fit, so plenty of space to wiggle the toes, and there’s good arch support. We normally tend to find that Keen’s shoes are true to size and we won’t need to size up or down and that’s been the case for us with the Howser III.

Loads of different colourways available too. As you can see, we opted for the neutral grey, but there are a whole bunch of different designs to choose from, including a very snazzy plaid.

Roll on winter.
