Cumbrian-born fell running brand Inov-8 have just released the next shoe in their G-Series range, and it looks a cracker.
Building on from the immediate success of the Terraultra G 260 and the latest version of the Roclite, the new Mudclaw G 260 utilises the extremely strong, elastic and durable properties of newly-discovered material graphene.
“The rubber studs look more like claws or fangs…”
Made to be pulled out of the kit room when the UK weather systems do the dirty on you and turn your favourite trail into a muddy slip ‘n slide, Inov-8’s Mudclaw range – which has seen previous models including the 275 and 300 – is designed with the sole aim of offering unrivalled levels of traction.
This has been achieved by fronting some pretty aggressive 8mm lugs to literally claw away at the ground below, providing you with Land Rover like torque to keep yourself running, no matter the conditions.
I’ll save rehashing what has already been said regarding the science-proven material graphene and how it came to be the world’s strongest material, but be sure to read the below articles if you’ve not already to get your head around this impressive new material.

In short, the material is produced from graphite and is supposedly 200 times stronger than steel. When infused with rubber, it creates a blend that is 50% more elastic and 50% stronger than traditional rubbers.
Ultimately, it means a big extension in the time taken for the studs to become worn down, so they won’t lose their traction even after thousands of miles of tough trail wear.
A lightweight, breathable upper, with Inov-8’s Exertoflow midsole sandwiched in to provide a nice bit of rebound and a 4mm drop, has enabled the brand to keep the weight down to a fairly impressive 260g per shoe.
We’re looking forward to getting our hands on a pair of these and put them through the mill in whatever conditions the UK weather can create out in the hills – stay tuned to hear more.
