Fjällräven Abisko Trail Tights | Review

Fjällräven are onto a winner with these incredibly comfortable, multi-pocket, tights

Why We Chose The Fjällräven Abisko Trail Tights: Tough, stretchy, and with well-implemented storage solutions.

Depending on how extensive your knowledge of obscure Swedish villages is, you might not have heard of Abisko before. Situated in the Abisko National Park, surrounded by epic Scandinavian terrain, and with a view of the iconic u-shaped ‘Lapporten’ valley (essentially a naturally-formed halfpipe for giants), it’s the perfect departure point for day hikes and the like. It’s also the name of a product family from everybody’s favourite Swedish brand – Fjällräven.

The Abisko Trail Tights are, it goes without saying, incredibly lightweight (they’re tights after all). In a nutshell, they’re a tough pair that are designed for fast-paced or long-distance summertime treks. Evidence of their durability is clear to see in the ceramic print knee and rear reinforcements. The durability is also noticeable if you spend anytime examining the hardy, yet breathable, four-way stretch material (a mixture of polyamide and elastane). The lighter fabric on the Abisko’s waist, crotch, and back of the thighs aids ventilation and moisture wicking nicely.

One of the downsides to tights, traditionally speaking, is that they often provide the wearer with next to no storage options. Thankfully, Fjällräven have flipped that notion on its head with the Abisko Trail Tights – serving up practical pockets that blend seamlessly into the item’s streamlined aesthetic. Not only are there two impressively subtle leg pockets here, one with a zipper and one with an overlapping closure, there’s also a really useful security pocket at the back perfectly sized for storing your smartphone.

Another impressive aspect of this product is its comfortable high waist with well-implemented drawcord. You can move as quickly as you want in these things, safe in the knowledge that your tights will stay exactly where you intended them to when you first hit the trails.

If you’re all about wearing outdoor kit that provides first-rate freedom of movement, you’ll dig the Abisko Trail Tights from Fjällräven. Available in men’s and women’s versions, they’re ideal for trekking and doing a spot of light climbing or scrambling in.

Tester’s Verdict

Nic Hardy (‘Adventure Nic‘), Munro bagger

“These are like a second skin, I’ve had no problems at all with them and really enjoyed trialling them on the Outdoors Magic tester’s weekend in the Brecon Beacons. I’ve got fairly long legs but these have been the perfect length for me. I like that zipped pocket and the really deep tuck pocket for sticking a phone inside. Something I’ve come to notice is that I’ve never had to pull them up which is an issue I’ve had when trekking in other tights.

“Wearing them in the Brecon Beacons they coped well with the wet weather and blocked out the wind surprisingly well also. To top it all off, I like the colour. I’d 100% buy these.”
