Adidas are a brand that have always been at the forefront of what’s relevant, and with the outdoors now officially cool in hipster circles (it’s always been cool but now, according to east London, it’s officially cool), we’ve been keen to see what Adidas would deliver in the current landscape.

They haven’t disappointed. Their new Adidas Terrex line is their top-level offering geared towards performance in the mountains, with a particular focus on trail running – they’ve even got their own ultra running event, go check out the Infinite Trails for more about that.

As well as some very decent trail running footwear, the collection also boasts some pretty smart outerwear, like this for instance, the Adidas Terrex Agravic Three-Layer Jacket.

Available in ‘Legend Ink’ and ‘Shock Blue’, this is the perfect waterproof jacket for city dwellers who love the smell of rainy-day hikes and trail runs at the weekend. It’s made of a super lightweight ripstop nylon that delivers full protection from the elements thanks to its Climaproof membrane (20,000mm HH), combined with what we’ve found to be an impressive level of breathability. What’s more, the jacket folds down into its own pocket so that it can be easily stored in your pack or even in the pocket of your shorts as that ‘just-in-case’ option.

As you’d probably expect from a brand like Adidas, the Agravic has an athletic fit. Wider at the chest, while also being snug in the lower body and sleeves, the product is a testament to its creators’ sporty heritage. One other impressive element is the articulation it has in the arms which gives you completely unhindered movement when you’re at full swing.

Chuck in the effective adjustable hood with bonded hood wire, the elasticated hem that has a drawcord for good measure, plus the large zipped chest pocket and what you’re left with is something that’s so much more than just a nice looking jacket. This thing really has been built to get active in, even if it’s raining cats, dogs, hamsters, goldfish; you name it.

“I tested this jacket on a trip to the Isle of Arran on a 3-day hiking and trail running weekend in late spring. The thing that really stands out for me with this jacket is that it feels storm proof. With the zip to the top and hood up it really feels like you will be able to keep heavy weather out – it certainly did in Scotland!

“The zip feels really solid, almost a mini version of what you would find on a waterproof duffel bag. This is the sort of attention to detail that makes you feel like you are wearing something that has been well thought through.

“The hood is one of the best features on the jacket and I’ve found it to be ultra protective. When you fasten the hood it is locked into place with no chance of it blowing off your head – it didn’t for me on the top of Arran’s hills. The peak sits low enough to keep the rain out of your eyes but also allows a good, wide range of vision which is essential on a fast descent when footing is key.

“The jacket felt very breathable – when I was on an incline in the rain, I had everything zipped up and even though I was generating a lot of heat, condensation wasn’t building up in the jacket. And finally; when the sun did some come out – thanks Scotland – the jacket packs into its own pocket and stowed well in my bag.”
