When Haglöfs release a new jacket within their Less is More (L.I.M) range, our ears prick up – we’ve put a few the products in this range through their paces, and they’ve tended to impress us. Take last year’s L.I.M Comp Jacket for instance. We liked that enough to include it within our Outdoor 100 (stay tuned for the 2019 edition – coming soon).

The L.I.M range represents a stripped down, no thrills approach that only gives you the basics you need for fast and light adventures – and for the fraction of the weight of most competitor products. Robert Olsson, Senior Clothing Designer claims that “L.I.M is built to an ultra-lightweight minimal design, with every spare gram removed and none of the functionality compromised.”

New in the L.I.M range for Spring/Summer 2019 is a mountaineering-focussed jacket called the L.I.M Mountain Proof Anorak.

When you think of lightweight waterproof jackets, you’d usually think of 2.5 layer membranes which don’t offer much in the way of long term durability. The Mountain Proof Anorak, however, is able to boast a three-layer system, making it that bit more durable.

At 252g, it’s not quite as light as the sub 100g Berghaus Hyper 100, but it’s still way, way lighter than your average 3L jacket.

The secret here is Haglöfs’ own Proof Eco fabric, which, while being extremely light, also has some excellent environmental credentials. Take, for instance, the fact that it’s made from 100% recycled polyamide, it’s also bluesign approved, with none of those nasty PFCs used in its water repellent treatment.

There’s an adjustable hood, Velcro cuffs and a single zipped chest pocket that sits at the centre of the jacket (keeping it away from any backpack straps) to carry just the essentials – and that’s your lot in terms of features.

All in, this is a minimal jacket, that should provide maximal protection when you need it. Many other brands have been pushing the whole ‘less is more’ mantra, but with the L.I.M range Haglöfs seem to have genuinely succeeded in this mission, and with a thought towards more sustainable technologies.
