Through a long development process, Fjällräven have harnessed their hiking trouser expertise and used it to create a robust pair of trekking tights for Spring/Summer 2022. Made from a new, compressive, quick-drying fabric and featuring strategic Cordura reinforcements, the Abisko Trekking Tights Pro W are designed to withstand harsh conditions while providing comfort and flexibility on the trail.
Donna Bruns was at the helm of the team that designed the products. She’s the Global Product Director at Fjällräven.
Speaking following the launch of the range, she said that specific requirements are involved when making kit that actually works for women, particularly when it comes to trousers.
“For the Abisko Trekking Tights Pro W development, we put together a dedicated female development team and collected feedback from female product testers to create trekking tights that we are happy to wear ourselves on the trail,” said Bruns. “They provide an inclusive and comfortable fit, great freedom of movement, and are robust enough to keep up with the high demands we put on ourselves, and our equipment, while on the trail”.
The tights are highly durable, with abrasion resistant reinforcement in the knees and rear to help prevent tearing in rocky scrambles or if you took a seat on some rough terrain. They also feature a map pocket and a pillow pocket, both with a smooth, low profile and secure zips to ensure belongings stay in place. It’s practical hiking gear that remains minimalist and has unmatched freedom of movement.
The design has several other technical aspects that make these tights optimal for strenuous outdoor use. The circular knit gives the tights an even 360-degree stretch which greatly improves shape, recovery and comfort. Meanwhile, the waist band sits high and holds its place well while the reinforcement panels provide lightweight protection, giving the tights a secure and robust feeling without adding any bulk. The leg ending was also reworked into this final design and is bonded and zipless to improve comfort while wearing hiking boots and layering hiking socks.
