HIGHLANDER, which currently holds long-distance hiking events in 13 countries has formed a partnership with Spartan, the global obstacle course events brand known for its gruelling foot races.
Founded by a group of friends in the beautiful Velebit mountains of Croatia and hosted by a long list of countries including Austria, Portugal, Serbia and North Macedonia, HIGHLANDER gives hiking enthusiasts the chance to venture deep into dramatic mountain landscapes without the need to worry about top-to-bottom trip logistics.
Each event has three different formats to choose from, including a 100km trek split over 5 days, a shorter 55km trail split over 3 days or a 30km one designed for those who only want the one night out on the trail.
It’s by no means a race, with entrants encouraged to go at whatever pace they’re comfortable with. They just need to make sure to stop by at each checkpoint along the way where they’ll be able to camp with other participants and enjoy things such as yoga classes, workshops, book and movie presentations and even live music.
In its statement announcing the new partnership, HIGHLANDER says that it will now have the ‘opportunity to present its concept to a wider audience and pursue its core goals’ with the intention of reaching 100,000 participants annually.
The brand has hinted at an expansion into new countries as well, with new events likely to be held in the USA, UK, China and Australia.
“We want to inspire people to ascend from their routine to a better self while contributing to a better world,” said HIGHLANDER CEO Jurica Barac. “HIGHLANDER offers a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime adventure in some of the most amazing places around the world. That is why we are truly honoured to have Spartan – the leading global endurance sports brand — as our partner. Together, we will change lives across the world.”
