Vaude Terra Hogan 2P Tent | Review

A simple to pitch, well-built, 2 person tent. What's there not to like?

The Vaude Terra Hogan 2P Tent is the perfect example of a well-built, fit-for-purpose two-person tent, and while it might look complicated it’s really not at all. In fact it’s extremely simple to put up and take down.

It’s actually an addition to Vaude’s popular Hogan family, and there are plenty of similarities between this and the other models in the collection, most notably with that sturdy drawn forward dome design. The big difference, however, is that the pole system now goes on the outside as an exoskeleton, so instead of having to pitch the inner mesh first (as was the case with previous Hogans) you can now pitch the flysheet and inner all as one. This is something that can be so useful when you’re setting up in the rain and don’t want to leave any non-waterproof materials exposed.

“…look no further than the Terra Hogan 2P. It’s a really solid two-person option”

To erect it you only have to anchor the pole ends and wrap the elastic cord over the poles before securing it with the little hooks and then hey, presto, you’re done. This is handy at the best of times, but again, it’s especially useful when it’s pouring with rain and you’re yet to pitch, and stuck in open terrain. It really takes no time at all.

Worth mentioning is its durable ripstop flysheet fabric (75D) which has a polyurethane coating for waterproof protection, and also the mini poles which are embedded at the back end of the tent. These poles make the inner walls almost vertical, therefore meaning you won’t get any mesh sagging down onto the bottom of your sleeping bag.

And finally, onto the porch. When you’re camping in somewhere like the Brecon Beacons the wind can all-too-often switch its direction overnight meaning that while you might’ve had shelter from the elements whilst you cook in the evening, you might not necessarily have that privilege when you’re preparing your cuppa the next day.

To address this problem Vaude have given the Terra Hogan a two-way facing porch that can be unzipped on whatever side isn’t facing the wind. What’s more, each entry features two-way zips that which give the option of opening just at the top for a bit of ventilation without completely exposing the inside.

“Aside from the fact it hasn’t got the smallest of packed sizes, it’s hard to flaw. A great tent from Vaude.”

There are lighter tents out there, but certainly not many that strike as good a balance as this does when it comes to durability, space and price.

So, if you’re after a bit of kit that will serve you well from early spring through to the end of autumn, and that will endure time no matter what the weather throws your way, look no further than the Terra Hogan 2P. It’s a really solid two-person option.

Incredibly easy to set up, and incredibly easy to take down. There’s not an abundance of room inside the tent but enough for two people with a bit of extra space if you leave your backpacks in the porch, which is very handily accessible from zips on either side. The tent can certainly handle the elements too. Aside from the fact it hasn’t got the smallest of packed sizes, it’s hard to flaw. A great tent from Vaude.
