More Beer And More Running For Keswick Mountain Festival 2017

Timothy Taylor's and Salomon both up their involvement for this year's Keswick Mountain Festival as it gears up for its 11th running

This year’s Keswick Mountain Festival seems to be gearing up nicely for its tenth anniversary. Not only is it happened three weeks later than normal over the weekend of 8-11 June, but major sponsors brewer Timothy Taylor’s and Salomon have both committed to increased backing for this year.

The switch to the later date in early June brings the festival into early summer rather than late spring and is part of plan to accommodate even more visitors than last year when attendance grew by 14%. Better weather – fingers crossed there – are backed up by plans to double the festival campsite size to accommodate over 2,000 people.

In addition, the sporting events, particularly swimming in Derwent Water, should benefit from warmer temperatures associated with the Lake District’s typically tropical June norms, erm…

Otherwise, it looks like being more of the same, but better with a mix of sporting events, outdoor activities, guided walks, live music, high profile speakers, camping, and family friendly attractions.

More Beer, More Runnings…

Two of Keswick’s major partners have agreed to up their involvement this year. Keighley based brewer Timothy Taylor’s  is the official bar sponsor for Keswick Mountain Festival and in 2016 brought the brand’s leading ale Landlord to the event, along with Boltmaker, the CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain 2014, as well as a 10th KMF birthday special brew.

Following feedback after last year’s festival, KMF will double bar capacity and bar staff numbers in the Festival Village for 2017.  Timothy Taylor’s Mountain Hut Bar will return, and will be joined by Timothy Taylor’s Lakeside Bar and the new Garden Bar.  In the lead up to the event, the KMF team and Timothy Taylor’s will select a variety of cask ales and put plans in place to ensure that the pumps can meet demand at all times.

To which we say, whoop!

Salomon Backs Running And Hiking Programme

Meanwhile, fast and light specialist Salomon will once again sponsor the KMF Trail Races, run over distances of 5K, 10K, 25K and 50K.

This year it will also be backing the festival’s Hike programme and will work closely with organisers – it says here –  to extend the opportunities for visitors to enjoy guided walks at all levels.

“This is very exciting news for Keswick Mountain Festival.  Salomon and Timothy Taylor’s were already important sponsors, but this increased level of involvement will allow us to continue improving the visitor experience during the festival.”

The KMF Salomon Trail Races have been growing year on year, taking advantage of stunning scenery in the hills above Keswick and alongside Derwent Water and not only are there more places for runners this year, but Salomon and the Festival team are working together to improve the experience both for competitors and spectators. More beer we say…

Nicola Meadley, Keswick Mountain Festival director, comments:

“This is very exciting news for Keswick Mountain Festival.  Salomon and Timothy Taylor’s were already important sponsors, but this increased level of involvement will allow us to continue improving the visitor experience during the festival.

“Both companies have seen how the event has grown and matured, and it is really encouraging that they want to commit additional resource to work with us and help make Keswick Mountain Festival even more memorable.”

We say amen to that, it’s an amazing event with a brilliant outdoor festival vibe set in a great location and with something for everyone to enjoy.
