Altberg Launches New Boots For Wider Feet

Two new boots from Yorkshire specialist Altberg are engineered from the sole up to suit those with wider than average feet.

Yorkshire boot-maker Altberg has two new models this spring, the Keld and the Kisdon, based on existing boots, but aimed at walkers and hikers with wider feet.

The boots share a new G-Fit last and are designed to give more width and volume particularly in the forefoot area. What makes them different from most wide-fit boots, is that the mid-sole and out-sole have also been widened in proportion to the upper, so you don’t end up with a wide foot perched precariously on a sole unit that’s too narrow for it. That in turn, says Altberg, gives significantly great comfort.

“We don’t create new lasts as a marketing ploy,’ says Altberg’s Mike Sheehan.  “We developed G-Fit because we are aware there are so many people with high volume feet that experience genuine difficulty with boot fitting. There is no such thing as a ‘one fits all’ fitting system; you can’t cut corners.”

The new Altberg Keld is one of just two models in the range using the new, wider-fitting, G-Fit last

The Boots

There are two models available in the new G-Fit last. The Keld – above – is a traditional 2-3 season walking boot with a seamless one-piece construction, made from first-grade 2.6mm Italian Nubuk leather with a Sympatex waterproof/breathable lining.

Essentially it’s a wider-fitting version of the proven Malham boot and uses a combination of Vibram outsole and Tri-flex midsole. It retails for £180.

Meanwhile the slightly gnarlier Kisdon – main image – is based on the existing Nordkapp three-season boot. Like the Keld, it uses a seamless Italian Nubuk one-piece upper with a Sympatex waterproof lining, but has a higher ankle design for great protection.

A full rand increases durability and again there’s a Vibram sole and Tri-flex midsole; with lacing extending further towards the toe for more adjustability. Price is £220.
