A quick heads up on a pair of new lightweight micro-baffled hooded down jackets from Danish down specialist Yeti, the men’s Cut and the women’s Affinity, which mix high-lofting 800+ goose down and utra-lightweight fabric for a blend of lightness and insulation.
Next To Nothing
Yeti’s Next To Nothing fabric, is, says the brand ‘ the lightest down proof fabric available today. It uses fibres which are 1/20th the thickness of a human hair to produce a finely-woven material weighing just 20 grams per square meter. There’s only one factory in the world capable of producing the fabric and it’s in Japan.
The other half of the equation is high-lofting 800+ fill power 95/5, ethically-sourced, European goose ‘Crystal Down’ housed in stitch-through microbaffles.
Size Of A Grapefruit
The combination of thin fabric and high spec down means that the whole jacket can be stowed in its own pocket giving a pack-size similar to a grapefruit but a whole lot lighter. The jackets also feature adjustable hem and hood so you can cinch things down for maximum warmth plus twin hand-warmer pockets.
You may not be familiar with the brand, but it’s been in the down business for 30 years, starting with sleeping bags and moving into down clothing more recently.
