“I think we’re dealing with a dead person here”. Those are the chilling words spoken straight after a group of hillwalkers have seen their friend slide down a mountainside before disappearing over an edge and out of view.
The incident was captured on a head-mounted GoPro camera by one of the group named ‘BraveDave’, as they attempted to climb Crib Goch, a knife edge ridge that leads to the summit of Snowdon.
“The footage shows the desperate search for their friend and then the long wait for mountain rescue.”
They had been making their way down an escape route from the mountain top after abandoning their traverse along the ridge when the conditions had begun to worsen.
As well as capturing the events immediately before the accident, the footage shows the desperate search for their friend and then the long wait for mountain rescue to arrive.
It’s worth watching the video right through to the end to see the incredible work of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, a fully voluntary organisation who respond to those in need on Snowdon and the surrounding mountains.
The team is on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and relies entirely on donations from members of the public (justgiving.com/llanberismountainrescue)
