Trail and Scramble Shoes

Salomon OutPath Pro GTX | Review

The Salomon OutPath Pro GTX is a boot that turns a lot of heads, and has the technology on board to back up those space-age looks

Needless to say, over the years we’ve seen our fair share of outdoor gear. Put simply, we’ve seen a lot of stuff. We’ve seen so much stuff, in fact, that we’re now at that stage where any brand wanting to genuinely surprise us has to throw some pretty wild curveballs into the mix; curveballs like the Salomon Outpath Pro GTX.

Visually speaking, the Salomon Outpath Pro GTX is definitely the kind of shoe that makes you sit up and take notice. Maybe it’s the unorthodox zip design, or the snap button, or the fact it generally looks like something that’d be worn on the Starship Enterprise, but there’s just something about the way it looks that makes you immediately want to put it on your feet and try it out. It’s got that whole cool, futuristic, thing going on which is always fun.

“The Salomon Outpath Pro GTX is definitely the kind of shoe that makes you sit up and take notice.”

Yes, the Outpath Pro GTX might look like madness but go beneath the surface and you can see that there’s method in it. That exterior, which brings to mind a surfer’s wetsuit, helps to keep the weight of these down to just 337g (per shoe). In terms of lightness, that figure takes you into trail running shoe territory. However if you were thinking this boot’s featherweight nature comes at the expense of stability and durability, think again. Salomon’s new Active Support technology, for example, protects your ankle on even the most tricky of surfaces. Run in them. Walk in them. It’s up to you.

The lining of the boot features Gore-Tex Performance Comfort, which is effective at keeping water out while also allowing for breathability so that your feet don’t get too stuffy when you’re active. The upper of the boot uses a water resistant, synthetic, textile which’ll almost certainly be appreciated by anyone who loves charging through streams and puddles without giving it a second thought.

The High Traction Contagrip steadies the shoe down below superbly; providing you with a sure-footed bite at times when you need it most. While defensively speaking, the combination of the protective heel cap and toe cap will heroically shield your feet at both ends. We’re also liking the injected EVA Sockliner and the shaped EVA footbed.

Perfect for those who like hiking at speed, you might have got the impression that we’re big fans of the Picasso-esque Salomon Outpath Pro GTX. It’s strange, different, exciting and it works; you’re going to love it.
