Picture Organic Clothing Atlant Backpack 22L | Review

Lightweight and 100% recycled; if you’re in need of an eco-friendly hiking daypack, the Atlant 22L will more than do the job

Why We Chose The Picture Organic Atlant Backpack: Eco-friendly, fuss-free, and well-suited for high-intensity outdoor pursuits

Picture Organic Clothing are a newer company to enter the outdoor market. Beginning in 2008 with the vision of creating sustainable outdoor wear, they have since produced garments made from 100% organic materials, recycled materials, bio-sourced materials, and re-used materials. Currently they’re creating bio-sourced jackets made from 100% sugar cane, an entirely recyclable polyester. In a move away from using traditional petroleum-based polyester, this is a pretty impressive feat.

The Atlant Backpack follows suit in eco-credentials. It’s made from 100% recycled materials, ensuring you some ethical peace of mind when you’re out enjoying nature’s natural goodness.

Who Is The Atlant Backpack For?

The overall look of this bag is very simple and straightforward, fitting in both on the trail, and on your daily commute. At the same time, it’s also very versatile and would be suited to a multitude of high-intensity outdoor activities, including trail running as well as some short cycling trips.

Design

The Atlant comes in black or military colours and has an overall volume of 22 litres. With dimensions of 52 x 23 x 14cm, it can fit a hydration system of up to 1.5 litres and has a 13-inch padded laptop pocket.

The fabrics themselves utilise ripstop technologies, adding to its durability and overall hardiness. The bag is also ergonomically sound, with comfy, perforated shoulder straps, a padded back panel, and a lumbar to hip belt to keep your body healthy and fit.

Tester’s Verdict

Sarah Baynham, South Wales-based outdoor photographer

“When I tried this backpack I did not expect it to be as comfortable as it was, especially on such a warm day! The back was a great size and I was easily able to fit in everything I needed for the day, plus a few extras.

“It had a handy external pocket at the top which was great for objects like keys and phones, so I could quickly access them, instead of having to rummage for them in the main compartment. The zips and zip pulls fell robust and didn’t felt they would break easily.”

“The elastic on the front was great for stuffing a jacket when the weather warmed up and I felt I could easily have fitted a light rain jacket in there too. The side pockets were a great size and were positioned in such a way I could easily get my water bottle when I was walking along the trail.

“The elastic on the front was great for stuffing a jacket.”

“The waist and chest straps were super easy to adjust, but the shoulder straps were quite fiddly and I ending up taking them off to adjust them, which did make it harder to get the straps even on my shoulders. Once fitted, the back was super comfy and stayed stable on my back. I expected my back to get quite warm beneath the bag, but this was not a problem at all. I normally get quite uncomfortable wearing bags for long periods but did not experience this at all.

“I would highly recommend this as a day hiking bag, for its comfort and available space. I would also consider using it as an overnight bag too if I was bivvying in the summer as I was surprised by how much room there was in the main compartment.”
