LedLenser MH3 LED Head Torch | Review

The LedLenser MH3 LED is a simple but effective head torch for those on a budget

Why We Chose The LedLenser MH3 LED Head Torch: Good value and effective

The LedLenser MH3 LED Head Torch is a multi-function, does it all, head torch that short of being a bottle opener basically does everything you could want of it with a bit extra on top. Bringing a three-in-one design to your night time adventures, this item is a head torch, a hand held torch, and a body light all wrapped into one.

Who Is The LEDLenser MH3 LED Head Torch For?

If you’re looking for something to guide the way for you when all other lights go out, you could do a hell of a lot worse than the LedLenser MH3 LED Head Torch. Whether you’re a wild camper / bivvy bagger, who likes packing light, or a night time trail runner who prefers the thrill of rushing around after dark, this torch screams functionality and versatility from the hilltops.

The fact you can wear it on your head and chest means the number of evening activities you can do with it is greatly increased. There’s no need here, after all, to try and stretch the torch over your bike helmet – you can, instead, light the way ahead by simply wearing it on your torso.

Features

Powered by a single AA battery (which comes included), and with a low battery indicator to keep you up to speed, the LedLenser MH3 delivers up to 200 lumens. This light can be focused with a simple, intuitive, twist of the lamp. It can also be tilted within a 60° angle, meaning you can adjust it to sort your situation.

It has a maximum light distance of 130 metres (at a real stretch) and an optimum light distance of 40 metres, meaning the way ahead is well lit whichever setting you have it on. The head torch has a maximum burn time of 35 hours, with the lowest settings activated, and a minimum burn time of 4.5 hours.

Weighing in at 190g, the MH3 LED from LEDLenser has an IPX rating of 4 meaning it’s well protected from water splashing at it from different directions. Perfect if you’re out and about in the rain or, for reasons unknown, sending it down some rapids in the middle of the night.

Conclusion

With an RRP of £34.95, the LedLenser MH3 is less than half the price of the Nitecore HC65 (£76.95). That being said, the MH3 offers 200 lumens whereas the HC65 offers a whopping, mind-boggling, 1,000 lumens (you get what you pay for with that one).

Either way, if you’re looking for a good head torch without the eye-watering price tag we think the versatile and extremely functional LedLenser is a great way to go. It’s not a Roll’s Royce by any stretch of the imagination, but it will serve you very well when the sun goes down.
