Klättermusen Gere Walking Trousers | Review

These hard wearing Klättermusen pants are durable, wind resistant, and extremely comfortable

Why We Chose The Klättermusen Gere Walking Trousers: Tough, functional, comfortable, quick-drying and incredibly windproof

Klättermusen are one of those just beneath the radar brands that don’t get anywhere near the amount of credit they should. Actually, from an awards perspective, that’s not true. They do get plenty of official credit, scooping more ISPO prizes in recent years than you’ve had hot dinners, it’s just that they maybe, for whatever reason, don’t seem to feature in outdoor media lists as much as they should. We’ve aimed to right that wrong this year by including them not once, not twice, but three whole times. These Gere Mountaineering Pants are well worth shouting about.

Who Are The Klättermusen Gere Mountaineering Pants For?

Klättermusen is Swedish for ‘climbing mouse’ so it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to discover that these trousers are dead durable, and more than capable of bashing up against all types of rock; making them ideal legwear for the scramblers in our audience.

With Klättermusen claiming that the Gere pants dry five times faster, and are ten times more wind resistant, than regular jeans it’s clear these things are suitable for being worn in extreme Swedish weather conditions.

The cleverly implemented ventilation here also means that they not only keep the elements out, but also help to keep the wearer from overheating when they’re getting properly active.

If you’re all about getting outdoors, and up hills and mountains no matter what the weather’s doing, we’re confident you’ll like what these mountaineering pants bring to proceedings.

Materials

The Klättermusen Gere Mountaineering Pants are 95% Ultramid Bio-Mass Balanced Polyamide, 5% Elastane bluesign approved fabric.

Digging into that a bit more, you might or might not already know that Polyamide is a durable and strong fibre. Ultramid Biomass Balance Polyamide brings those same qualities to proceedings but does it in a much more sustainable and environmentally friendly way. It does this by using renewable feedstock like bio gas and bio-naptha instead of fossil resources. In a nutshell, this product is a real winner for those looking to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Features

First things first, the Klättermusen Gere Mountaineering Pants scores well on the practical number of pockets front. We’re suckers on Outdoors Magic for a pair of walking trousers with plenty of storage, and this product definitely doesn’t disappoint in this respect. Zipped side pockets, as well as two front pockets and two back pockets, means wearers have got plenty of options here when it comes to carrying snacks, interesting pebbles, and various bits of gear.

“There’s a real sense here that Klättermusen knows its mountain-loving audience, and knows what they want”

There’s a real sense here that Klättermusen knows its mountain-loving audience, and knows what they want from a pair of trousers. Take the built-in attachment hook to seal the ankle against the bootlaces, the curved inner leg seam, and the reinforcement at the instep – designed to provide additional durability against low shrubs, rocks, or crampon spikes.

We’ve already touched upon the fact these trousers are designed for rough and tough high-level adventures. This is something that’s very much underlined by the pant’s pre-bent knees, and elasticated waist, for all-important freedom of movement.

Conclusion

At first glance, these are just your standard pair of outdoor trousers. Dig a little deeper though and you’ll find yourself another masterpiece from a brand that’s definitely got previous on the quality gear front.

There are definitely more affordable outdoor trousers out there, take the very good Montane On-Sight Pants – RRP £75 – for example. However, if you are genuinely mad for the mountains and want some legwear that can handle rough terrain and strenuous activities then you might just want to get these trousers in your wardrobe.
