Here’s something we just discovered over on Indigogo. It’s a packraft that weighs less than 1,400g, that can supposedly be inflated in less than 25 seconds, and best-of-all, that won’t cost you a fortune.
It’s called the Rapid Raft and it’s from Uncharted Supply Co, a Utah-based brand that specialises in ‘preparedness products’.
The packraft is made from a coated 400D polyurethane fabric and features welded and watertight seams. No pumps are needed to inflate it. All you need to do is open the roll-top closure and scoop air into it – like you would with those weird inflatable loungers you see on beaches – then you just give a final top up by blowing into the one-way valve.
Apparently it’s capable of holding weights of 180kg and can just about fit two adults plus their kit if necessary.
All packed up it’s no bigger than a loaf of bread. Paddles? Sadly Uncharted haven’t developed any yet. We wouldn’t be surprised if some come along from them eventually though.
At the moment the Rapid Raft is being pre-sold ahead of its November 2019 launch for £245 on Indiegogo with the price set to go up to £327. So, if you like the look of it, we recommend getting in quick.
