Dolomite Tofana GTX Walking Boot | Review
Coming 120 years after Dolomite was founded, the Tofana GTX is a real Italian masterpiece
When you can trace the history of an outdoor boot back to 1897, you know it’s got some authenticity behind it; know it’s been part of a process. The Tofana GTX by Dolomite, a company founded in (you guessed it) 1897, is the result of 120 years of master craftsmen perfecting their craft. You tend to learn a thing or two about what it takes to make a quality item of footwear when you’ve been in the game for well over a century, and Dolomite’s expertise has never been more apparent than it is here.
“One of our favourite things about the Tofana GTX is how tough and solid it feels."
As suited to muddy walks through forests as it is to the rocky terrain you get on mountain hikes, this classic-looking leather number looks the part and delivers first-rate performance whether you’re off-trail or on it. The Vibram sole, as per usual, is absolutely superb; delivering reassuring grip underfoot that, in turn, allows you to just get on with enjoying the simple pleasures which come with being out in nature.
One of our favourite things about the Tofana GTX is how tough and solid it feels. Offering thickness in all the right places, the boot’s design puts a nicely chunky cushioning wall between you and the ground and the rubber rand around the base of the upper gives that extra bit of durability. Nature’s most jagged and pebbly footpaths will be kept at bay all-day long and this, let’s face it, is something any hiker worth their salt will seriously appreciate.
The perfect hiking boot for autumn and winter, the Tofana GTX somehow manages to blend long-lasting durability with gentle-on-your-feet comfort. It’s also, in a manner befitting an age-old stereotype about Italian design, super stylish. We’ve seen our fair share of walking boots over our combined years in the industry and we honestly think the Tofana GTX is right up there as one of the best looking ones on the market.
