Berghaus Launches Anti Black Friday ‘Get Out Game’

Follow the clues, find the flag and win one of 1,000 prizes in the brand's stealth antidote to stay at home consumerism...

Berghaus has taken up cudgels against consumerism, er sort of, with the announcement of what it calls ‘an antidote to Black Friday’ in the form of the ‘Get Out Game’, with 1,000 prizes up for grabs.

The idea is that you register your interest online and then receive a series of clues on the days leading up to and including Black Friday. Then, once you’ve solved the mystery directions, you head out on the Saturday looking for a flag in one of four popular outdoor areas.

First Five Flag Finders Win…

The first five people to find each flag will win an Extrem Micro Down jacket from the brand’s latest range and there will be hundreds of additional prizes at each location. In all there are going to be 1,000 prizes.

‘It has’, says Berghaus, ‘been designed as a mental and physical challenge for consumers and an antidote to the online bargain hunting that characterises Black Friday’.

What’s all this subversive, anti-consumerism about? ‘

“There are no catches in this.  It’s simply an initiative that will take everyone who participates on a journey into the outdoors that will provide rewards.  Berghaus kit will be part of those rewards.”

“Black Friday has become a phenomenon that now seems to last a whole weekend, but this is not a development that reflects the values we hold dear at Berghaus,” declares Berghaus brand president Richard Leedham.

“Rather than indulge in the discount shopping mayhem, we think that a healthier alternative – for body and soul – is to explore the outdoors.  We appreciate that some people might need an incentive to do that, which is where the Get Out Game comes in.”

“There are no catches in this.  It’s simply an initiative that will take everyone who participates on a journey into the outdoors that will provide rewards.  Berghaus kit will be part of those rewards.”

All of which sounds like some sort of perverse stealth anti-consumerism, but with a consumerist bent to us, but hey, if it gets people out there, who are we to complain?

Having said that, we’ve already signed up, so we’d actively like to discourage you from taking part to give us a clear run at our local flag…
