Alpkit Launches New Cooking Gear

Alpkit has already dipped an exploratory toe in the stove market, but now there are two additions to the ‘lightest canister-top stove in the world’ Kraku, plus a selection of pans, a new titanium mug and some culinary accessories.

As with the Kraku, the new stoves are produced by Chinese stove-making giant Fire Maple and simply badged up and rebranded for Alpkit, which the brand makes no bones about, though one of the new stoves is effectively unique to them, thanks to the use of ti pan supports along with a pre-heater.

Koro Stove – £35

So what’s new? First on the list is the new Koro Stove, a remote canister burner that features a pre-heating tube for use in colder conditions and was originally designed for use on Everest. The stove is unique to Alpkit in having titanium legs and pan supports, has a generously sized burner and an armoured hose between canister and burner unit.

It weighs in at a claimed 124g and is priced at £35. Generally remote stoves like this allow easier simmering and because they sit low on a tripod-type base, are more stable, particularly with larger pots. Looks trick as well and should make a decent all-round, all-weather mountain stove. No igniter, so don’t forget that lighter.

BruKit Inegrated Cooking System – £35

There’s nothing unique about the all-in-one BruKit stove – JetBoil and others have been making similar stoves for years – essentially it’s a pot with an integrated heat-exchanger come windshield that clips onto the stove base with a slot and turn mechanism and features an integrated Neoprene pot cosy.

What makes it different is the highly affordable price of just £35. The pot has a maximum capacity of 1200cc and has a durable hard anodised finish, there’s a silicone lid with drinking slot, integrated piezo ignition and a mesh storage bag. Great for rapid brews and lightweight one-pot meals for one or maybe two folk.

Overall weight is 466g compete and it fits into the pan a log with the canister stabilising legs supplied. Like we said, it’s not ground-breaking stuff, but it’s considerably cheaper than any other similar system we’ve seen and while the burner isn’t the most advanced thing out there, the stove looks well finished and the principles are well proven.

BruPot

You can also benefit from the heat exchanger design with the new BruPot, a hard-anodised aluminium cooking pot designed to work with normal stoves and featuring an integrated heat exchanger in the base for added efficiency, so you upgrade your stove.

It has the same silicone lid as the BruKit plus a pot cosy and detachable stainless steel handles with a rubber coating. Capacity is 1000ml, weight 222g and price a not extortionate £20.

More New Pots

Along with the new stoves, Alpkit also has a range of pots and pans to go with them in both aluminium and titanium. The AliPots set is a £20 ensemble of hard anodised aluminium cooking pots, two of them complete with matching pan lids/frying pans all of them with rubber-coated, fold-out handles.

The pans are two litre and one litre in capacity and the complete set weighs in at 596g. For solo use you could mix and match though with the one-litre pan weighing in at 143g plus 113g for the lid. Curved rim means they can also be hung using a dedicated chain-set. Open fire cooking anyone?

Nesting Ti

Slightly posher is a new range of titanium pans in various configurations: MyTi Stax is a nesting set of three pots sized 400, 800 and 1200 m and aimed at two-person or small group use. They’re made from 0.4mm brushed titanium, have fold-out rubber-coated handles and at 264g for the set are decently light too. Price is £50.

New MyTi Mug – £20

Also new is a revised version of the classic Alpkit MyTiMug 650. With a capacity of 650ml it’s 100cc smaller than the original and comes complete with a lid. It’s aimed at extreme lightweight use – cook in it, eat or drink from it, be happy – and has a flat base for easier cleaning than the old version, which is currently on sale if you’re quick about it… 

The mug also has a big brother in the shape of the MyTiPot 900, an oversized mug come pot/pan with integrated handles aimed at lighweighters and, like the mug, complete with lid. Price to you is £25.

Cooking Accessories

Along with all that stuff there’s also a fold-out anodised windshield – not light and we’re not sure about the gaps between the panels for ultimate wind resistance for a tenner, works best with the remote Koro Stove says Alpkit, the TiFoon, a titanium spark with integrated bottle opener for a fiver and last but not least, a ‘chain set’ which allows you to suspend any of the new pots over an open flame.

You can customise lengths by adding or removing links. It’s kind of trick as well with titanium chain links and stainless steel clips and all for £6.50. Just add a small fire and cook away to your heart’s content.
