A hammock that’s small enough to fit in your jacket pocket and extremely easy to suspend

Why We Chose The Ticket To The Moon Lightest Hammock: Lightweight, easy to use, and great for everything from overnight microadventures to multi-day treks in wooded areas

As the name suggests, Ticket To The Moon’s latest product, the Lightest Hammock, is exceptionally lightweight. The hammock itself weighs just 228g. With the brand’s lightest set of straps, the total system weighs just 323g. It’s also extremely strong as well, capable of holding a weight of 150kg (24 stone).

The judges at the last Outdoor Show by ISPO (which included our very own editor, Will) actually deemed this to be worthy of a Gold Award, so basically one of the biggest prizes in the outdoor industry.

Who Is The Ticket To The Moon Lightest Hammock For?

In short, it’s going to be something that the ultra, ultra-light hikers out there are going to be interested in. Used with a tarp (if necessary) it gives the potential to set out on a journey of any length without a tent, thus lowering your pack weight substantially. It would be absolutely ideal for something like the Appalachian Trail where you’re guaranteed to find trees to hang it up and to provide you with enough shelter from the wind. Bear in mind that its super thin material has little to no insulation value, so it’s probably not the kind of hammock you’re going to want to use in cold conditions.

Materials and Configurations

The Ticket To The Moon Lightest Hammock is made from a super thin, parachute-style 34g/m2 tripoly with stitching on the edges. It doesn’t seem to be ripstop, which could be problematic down the line. At each end there are tough polyethylene cords with small but very strong steel carabiners attached.

The Lightweight Straps that are designed to be used with this are made from a mix of UHMPE cord mixed with polyester webbing. Altogether, the two straps weigh just 95g.

Deployment is very, very simple. You wrap one end of the webbing around a tree or post, thread the other end of rope through the loop at the end and then clip the carabiner at each end of the hammock onto one of the laddered sections of rope. It all takes less than a minute and you can adjust tension easily when required.

It’s worth pointing out that it’s possible to purchase the Lightest Hammock as a bundle with the Lightest Straps and Lightest Tarp for £190, or you can purchased the different elements separately if you want.

“I used the Lightest Hammock with the Lightest Straps regularly in my garden throughout the lockdown period and have been really impressed by the system.

“The material feels so thin, I couldn’t help feeling a bit nervous when I first climbed into it, but I’ve eventually come to be able to really trust it. As for getting it set up, it’s very simple. The overall design is very similar to that of the Sub6 by ENO, however I’d say this one is even easier to set up. It took me less than two minutes the first time I tried, after only a quick glimpse at the instructions on the pack.

“Once in it, you have plenty of space. I’m 5 foot 10 and it’s roomy for me. Most people of six foot or above should be fine in it as well given its total length of 320cm. It fitted a sleeping mat fine as well.

“Fortunately, putting it all away is quick and easy as well. You can either stash the sheet into the little pocket that that’s sewn onto it, or you can just shove it in the hammock (or banana) shaped zipped pouch that it comes in – this, by the way, can be stuffed with a t-shirt or jacket to double as a mini pillow when you’re in the hammock. Nifty.

“The straps come in their own mini sack and it’s quick and easy to get these tucked away thanks to the sack’s generous size,

“I’ve already mentioned the similarity between this and the ENO Sub6. The good thing about that one is that the fabric has a ripstop weave which means any nicks would be easier to repair. That said, the advantage of this, the Lightest Hammock is that it’s lighter, cheaper, and in my opinion, slightly easier to string up. Anyway, it’s a fun option that’ll definitely serve well in a practical sense as well.”
