Why We Chose The Klattermusen Allgron 2.0 Jacket: Seriously tough, eco-friendly, four-season mountain-climbing shell from an award-winning brand
Based in Åre, Sweden, Klattermusen are one of those comparatively smaller outdoors brands (at least in the UK) that might have passed you by in previous years. Not because they aren’t brilliant (they are), but because they do things in an understated way. Rather than injecting big chunks of their resources into flashy PR stunts, Klattermusen are all about focusing on their craft and letting their products do the talking. In many ways, they’re like that shy kid at school who surprised everyone at the talent show with their angelic singing voice and ‘Grade Eight’ piano skills.
At ISPO 2020, we were blown away by the number of award winners Klattermusen had in their line-up (we’d sort of lost count over the years). One of the products that really stood out to us at the Munich-held tradeshow was the Allgron 2.0 four-season shell jacket. It just ticked so many boxes that we couldn’t not include it in this year’s Outdoor 100. Let’s dive in and discuss it now.
Who Is The Klattermusen Allgron 2.0 For?
In Swedish, Klattermusen means ‘climbing mouse’. With that in mind, there’s no prizes for guessing that the Allgron 2.0 is aimed at mountain-loving climbers in particular. The pockets, for example, have been deliberately positioned so as to not interfere with any potential climbing harness, there’s a two-way main zip to help with that as well, and the arms have the right articulation to allow high, unhindered reaches.
“In Swedish, Klattermusen means ‘climbing mouse’”
If all this talk of climbing is putting you off however, rest assured that the Allgron 2.0 is just at home on everyday adventures as it is when it’s a stone’s throw away from the summit of Kebnekaise – Sweden’s highest mountain.
Materials
The Klattermusen Allgron 2.0 is made from fluorocarbon-free Cutan. This material is stretchy, comfortable, and as quiet as a particularly stealthy (climbing) mouse. As well as being fluorocarbon-free, the jacket’s Ultramid Bio-mass Balance Polyamide uses renewable resources; meaning it scores well on the environmental front. Last but by no means least, so as to ensure it can stand up to harsh surfaces, the Allgron 2.0 has been reinforced with Duracoat, a surface treatment that toughens up a fabric in high wear areas. Yes, fear not, this product is more than tough enough to handle the rough stuff, though bear in mind that at 624g it’s not the lightest of mountain jackets out there (though it’s not the heaviest either).
