Fjällräven are currently on the look-out for adventurous-types to join their annual expedition in the Arctic in March 2020.
Held each year since 1997, the Fjällräven Polar involves a 300km journey via dog sled across the wild, windy and cold tundra of Swedish Lapland.
The expedition group is made up of competition winners from 10 regions around the world, with two people chosen from each one. Those wishing to apply must upload a short video or a picture to the Polar website together with an explanation for why they should be chosen. Their entry then competes with the other entries from their region for one of the spots and the person with the most votes is then chosen to participate. Fjällräven’s jury then choose the second person from the region.
Polar experts will guide the team from the start at Signaldalen along an ancient Sámi route through to Väkkäräjärvi. Conditions over the six-day journey could be extremely challenging, with blizzards and minus 30°C temperatures not unusual at that time of year. At the start, Polar entrants will be taught how to communicate with their own dog team and they’ll then need to work with them for the rest of the trip. Nights will be spent in tents and even in snow holes.
Curious? UK/Ireland/BeNeLux region entries can be made here. The event runs from 30 March 2020 to 5 April.
