Berghaus have just announced the addition of two brand new packs to their top-level Extrem range – and they’re already on the market.

Developed with input from climbers Mick Fowler and Leo Houlding, the new Alpine 30 and Alpine 45 have, according to Berghaus, been designed to provide the essential features and performance for long days and challenging routes in the mountains.

Each has a classic alpine shape and style – with a narrow base and wider top – and is made from a durable 210D ripstop nylon fabric. Features include a roll top closure for speedy access to essential kit, a top strap for security and rope storage, adjustable elasticated front bungee, reflective details, aluminium ice axe holders, side compression straps and a side release opening for rope/ski carry.

The back system on each pack is close-fitting and low profile, incorporating high density EVA foam to curve naturally with the shape of the wearer’s back. On the Alpine 45, there’s also an added spring steel frame that can removed when weight saving is crucial.

The Alpine 45 which is retailing at £110 weighs only 955g, but can be stripped to just 820g. The Alpine 30 costs £90 and comes in at 705g.
