News | Alpkit Reassures Customers as Administration Process Begins

The brand says it is “business as usual” following investment and restructuring

UK outdoor brand Alpkit has moved into administration, but the company says it remains fully operational and is standing by all customer commitments.

The Newthorpe-based brand confirmed that all existing orders will be fulfilled, warranties remain valid, gift vouchers will continue to be honoured, and all Alpkit stores will stay open. Jobs across the business have also been secured, with events and community activities continuing as planned. The Alpkit Foundation, a charity set up in 2015 to help remove barriers to getting outdoors, remains fully operational too.

“We are standing by all our customer promises: all orders fulfilled, warranty in place, gift vouchers honoured,” said David Hanney, Alpkit’s Chief Executive. “All jobs are saved and stores remain open. Events are happening as usual, and people can still join us for gravel rides.”

Alpkit, which has built a loyal following through its focus on ethical manufacturing, accessible pricing, and a strong community ethos, has faced the same pressures affecting much of the UK outdoor retail sector. Rising costs, changing consumer spending habits, and a challenging retail environment have put strain on many outdoor brands in recent years.

In a letter sent to shareholders via the investment platform Crowdcube (as reported by Bikeradar), Hanney writes: “We’ve faced incredible challenges over the last three years. These include cost inflation, a challenging market and new trade barriers coupled with the rising weight of interest rates and recovery loan repayments”.

Despite entering administration, the company says the outcome has been positive, with new backing now in place.

“We’ve a remarkable outcome given the circumstances,” the Chief Executive told us. “I’m really pleased to have a new investor aligned to our purpose and principles. No one really knows the inside story like we do, and we’ve got a story to tell of adventures in the business world.”

Looking ahead, Alpkit confirmed it is continuing with planned product launches, including a new footwear range due to arrive in mid-May.

For customers, the message from the brand is clear: it is business as usual, both online and in stores.
