Birkenstock are responsible for what’s been quite possibly the most popular sandal of the last few decades. We’d go as far as saying it was a sandal that made sandals ‘cool’. If you don’t know which sandal we’re talking about here, it’s the Arizona; that brown, double-strapped one with the cork soles. Yeh, that’s right, you have seen it. Everyone has.
Anyway, while the Arizona might be classed as chic, it’s not exactly the kind of sandal you’d want to wear much further than the short hike from your car to the beach, mainly because it lacks the grip and stability we as hikers here at Outdoors Magic would expect from our sandals.
Now, however, it seems Birkenstock have come up with a variation of the Arizona that we can get behind.
Called the Mogami Terra, this new pair from the long-running German brand is specifically designed for outdoor use. It’s a hiking sandal that features a molded PU footbed and sole for stability in both wet and dry conditions, synthetic Birko-Flor uppers for water crossings and easy cleanings, the classic buckled straps of the Arizona and then hook-and-loop back straps for easy on/off and adjustments on the go.
One of the reasons behind Birkenstock’s popularity is the shaping of the sole platform as it brings a lot of comfort to the table. The good news is that the same orthopaedic construction is deployed with the Mogami Terra – there’s even a bit of extra arch support added too.
You’ll find this new sandal in men’s, women’s and kid’s sizes, and in five colorways. Prices range from £50 for the kids models to £150 for the adult sizes.
