A quick heads up on the return of the excellent Arc’teryx Alpine Academy to Chamonix this year over the weekend of 29 June – 2 July, 2017.
We’ve been lucky enough to attend two of the last three Arc’teryx academy events and they’re a brilliant way to learn some basic – not not so basic – alpine skills from experts in an inspirational landscape in the mountains around Chamonix.

It works like this: once the programme is published on the web, you choose some of the classes that interest you and book on.. They cover everything from ice climbing basics through to mountain photography. You choose beginner, intermediate or advanced levels depending on the course and your experience.
The classes take place in and most around or above Chamonix and are taught by qualified UIAGM Mountain Guides and Arc’teryx sponsored athletes.
We found a really wide spread of experience and ability from all around Europe, but what makes the event special is that there’s a fantastic, inclusive atmosphere with around 400 participants united by a mutual love of the mountains.
As well as the classes and clinics, there are films and an Academy dinner. And as a bonus, you also get the chance to try clothing and equipment provided by various top outdoor brands to participants.

All clinic details will be published on chamonix.arcteryxacademy.com on 1 March with registration opening on 15 March. You can also catch a video trailer for the event at www.youtube.com
