Robens have a strong heritage and reputation when it comes to tent constructions and we’ve seen some excellent releases from them in recent years – one or two of which have made it into our Outdoor 100 series, including the Goldcrest 2, a two-person backpacking tent that weighs just 1340g.
If you’ve been looking to get your hands on one of their designs but might’ve been put off by the prices of some of the more recent releases (the Goldcrest costs £499) then there’s good news, because they’ve just launched a range of reasonably priced options.
Each of the four new models in their new Route collection is based on existing Robens designs but with more basic materials swapped in. They’re entry-level options aimed at the award scheme hiker or occasional weekend warrior.
The Four New Designs
In the new Route collection there’s the £105 Arrow Head which is made for solo travellers looking for something that’s fast to pitch, light in weight and small in pack size. Then there’s the two person Arch 2 which costs £170 and weighs under 2kg, and another 2-person design called the Boulder 2 (£150) which is a sturdy dome-style design with twin doors and porches.
Finally, there’s the larger 3-person Pioneer 3EX tunnel tent which at just £225 looks a good fit for anyone looking for a backpacking or bikepacking option that affords plenty of space for kit.
All of the flysheets are made from Robens’ own HydroTex Core fabric which has a 3,000mm hydrostatic head and 75D rating. The poles are made from an aluminium alloy.
