German footwear specialists Hanwag have announced the re-release of one of their most eye-catching boots from the 80s.
The Bavarian brand have taken the design of their original Rotpunkt approach shoe and evolved into a retro-inspired boot with colourways straight out of their 1980s product catalogue and original Hanwag logos.
The new Rotpunkt, which was unveiled at Paris fashion week, comes with details that make it suitable for trail use, including a Vibram Chironico outsole, high-quality suede leather upper and a ribbed rubber rand.
Only 999 pairs have been made. Retailing at £300, each pair comes packaged in a bespoke retro shoebox with two additional pairs of laces and, according to Hanwag, “an array of exclusive Rotpunkt extras”.
“The Rotpunkt isn’t just a shoe; it’s a heartfelt tribute to the fearless climbers and paragliders who dared to challenge norms and push boundaries while wearing Hanwag hiking boots and shoes,” said Hanwag in their product release. “These intrepid adventurers redefined the possibilities, forging new routes and venturing into uncharted territory. Among these pioneers was Sepp Gschwendtner, a Bavarian climber who stood as one of the first redpoint climbers and early paragliders. His legacy lives on in the design of the new Rotpunkt.”
