Why We Chose The 1000 Mile Trail Sock: Comfortable, breathable, and fresher than your average sock, two pairs for the price of one.
Is there anything better in this life than a nice pair of comfortable socks? Sure, the first light of day while camping is nice. And yes, there’s a lot to be said for that first pint after a multi-day hike. But, in all honesty, we can’t think of many outdoor pleasures as simple, and yet enjoyable, as putting on a pair of socks that just feel right. Step forward: the Trail Sock from 1000 Mile.
This is a sock you can rely on, a sock that’s got your back (or should that be feet?) when the going gets tough. This has been, pardon the surgeon speak, anatomically designed to deliver comfort and support when you’re running off-road – a single skin design that strikes the perfect balance between comfort and breathability.
“In fact, I’d say these have been pretty perfect.”
There’s a slight bit of padding on the base – not too much to make things too hot though – and this extends upwards at the back to protect and support the achilles tendon. It wraps around the toes as well to prevent rubbing and, in turn, those dreaded blisters. Shoutout also to the flat toe seam here, a feature that significantly reduces the risk of any irritation in that flashpoint area.
A number of different materials have been utilised, and they’re all zoned strategically throughout the sock. The padding on the base, for instance, mixes Merino and acrylic in a blend that will offer natural anti-microbial properties (to stop nasty smells building up) and a smooth comfortable feel in those places that are likely to rub the most. Then on the top, there’s a blend of nylon and elastane that will first of all ensure that the sock stays nice and close to the skin, but then also help to ensure any moisture is wicked upwards to the ankle.
