Looking for a wild camping spot that’ll be great for your Instagram feed? You’re in the right place. Just a couple of things to run through first.
The first thing to know before you go wild camping is that it’s essential to embark on your trip fully aware of the principles of Leave No Trace. Wild camping should always be done with respect for the landscape and for the wildlife and people that live within it or surrounding it.
What Is Leave No Trace?
Leave No Trace is a universal set of ethics to guide those venturing into the outdoors. It consists of seven principles:
- Plan ahead and prepare.
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces
- Dispose of waste properly
- Leave what you find
- Minimise campfire impacts (be careful with fire)
- Respect wildlife
- Be considerate of other visitors.
Alongside following the main principles of Leave No Trace, there are some more specific things you can do to ensure your wild camping doesn’t affect other people and the surrounding environment. you can read about all of those in our guide to zero-impact camping.

Well, we’re sorry to say this but you’ve fallen into our trap.
We’re not really going to be revealing any secret spots. If we all flocked to the same locations, it’s going to be much, much harder to uphold those principles of Leave No Trace. There’d also then be the risk of aggravating famers, landowners and park wardens who could then begin pushing for wild camping restrictions.
In case you’re after more info on how to wild camp in the right way, here’s a useful video we put together that demonstrates some of the key principles.
