Osprey Transporter Duffel | Review

Wherever adventure takes you, the Osprey Transporter won't let you down

When International Man Of Mystery Austin Powers exclaimed “Yeah baby, that’s my bag” it’s to his, no doubt, eternal regret that he wasn’t talking about the Osprey Transporter duffel. The Californian company which was started with a single sewing machine and a lot of ambition back in 1974 have been making some of the best and most innovative bags on the market for the past 43 years, and the Transporter is no exception.

Available in a range of sizes, from the 40 litre through to the whopping 130 litre (we tested the 65 litre version) the Transporter is designed to adventure travel, being versatile enough for any situation, and tough enough to take whatever you can throw at it.

“It’s this kind of attention to detail and innovation that make the Osprey Transporter an ideal bag for adventure travel, wherever your destination might be”

The Transporter is made from TPU laminated 800D Nylon, which is not only as tough as nails, but is also highly water resistant. So you know whatever you’re carrying will remain dry should the heavens open.

The large main compartment of the Transporter, even on the smaller models in the range, is easily big enough to stash pretty much all of the gear you’d need to be active outdoors, whether that’s taking a long hike, bouldering, wild camping… whatever. Obviously a 12 foot touring kayak isn’t going to fit, but there’s plenty of room for a climbing helmet, a whole bunch of ropes, multiple layers, and pretty much whatever else you’ll need.

Along with this, an additional pocket on the lid of the pack is ideal for keeping important documents like your passport or train tickets along with your mobile phone. The extra external pocket on the end or the top of the pack (depending on how you look at it) helps keeps things organised.

You can carry the Transporter duffel in two ways – with a single shoulder strap like a carry on bag (only with the 40/65 litre versions), or with two shoulder straps like a backpack. There are pockets to tuck away the straps you’re not using them, and if you want to empty the duffel out pack the whole thing down (into a suitcase or a bigger backpack say) it fits neatly into the small stuff sack pictured. It’s this kind of attention to detail and innovation that make the Osprey Transporter an ideal bag for adventure travel, wherever your destination might be.
