Why We Chose The Rohan Trail Sock: Long-term insect-repelling qualities, comfortable, and durable
It’s no exaggeration to say that socks, for outdoor enthusiasts at least, have never been more technologically advanced than they are right now. Take the Rohan Trail Sock, for example. There are a couple of special socks in this year’s Outdoor 100, and Rohan’s effort here is definitely one of them.
Who Is The Rohan Trail Sock For?
A walking sock this good will do a job for you in multiple scenarios. However, its main USP is that it’s a warm weather sock with insect-repelling qualities. With that in mind, it’s probably best suited for people looking to do long hikes in hot, perhaps exotic, destinations.

Wear these on a summer’s day in the Highlands by all means (they’ll do a great job). What really makes the Rohan Trail so cool though is that they’re also incredibly well-suited to far-flung adventures – think Peruvian trekking, that sort of thing.
Versatility is the name of the game.
Materials
On a purely fabric front, what we’re looking at here is 78% Coolmax polyester, 18% polyamide, and 4% elastane. This is a good mix of breathability, durability, and stretchability.
The sock has also got high wicking and quick drying properties.
Features
The standout thing to talk about here is, without question, the implementation of Rohan’s Insect Shield technology. Insect Shield protects covered skin against insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges.
Some of these insects are just irritating but some of them, as you’ll no doubt be aware, can have life-altering consequences for your health. These socks will help to keep you safe, and that’s a great thing in our book.
Elsewhere on the sock there’s evidence of comfort and durability being fused together into one package. The invisible toe seams, for example, help to deliver a nicer feeling around the foot while the reinforced heel and toe box means this is a sock that’s tough enough to go the distance. No risk of it falling apart prematurely on the long ones.
