On Sunday, 17 November, Anna McNuff ran into Cannizaro Park, South Wimbledon to complete an epic barefoot running tour of Britain, covering around 2,352 miles altogether.
The adventurer began her journey from the most northerly point of the Shetland Islands and completed the equivalent of 90 marathons in total on her way down to London via Wales, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Cornwall and Jersey.
The run involved a trip to hospital to treat an infected cut on her sole; numerous acts of kindness from strangers, including sofas to sleep on and kit transports; and numerous stops to speak to groups and schools to encourage young women to “take on adventures and be unashamedly themselves”.
“The past 6 months seem like a bizarre dream,” said Anna immediately after finishing the challenge. “I know better than to try to process it all at once – that will take much wistful looking out of windows, a few long walks and some (imaginary) beard stroking. For now, all I can say is that I am overcome with pride for this amazing country.”
