Bergtagen is the new collection of outdoor wear by Fjällräven that’s designed specifically for mountaineering. In case you were wondering, it takes its name from a word the Swedish use to define the humbling sensation that the mountains can give you.
The whole range is based around a system concept, so each item can be combined and complemented with other items in the collection. The idea is that it can equip you from top to bottom and from baselayer to hardshell – and well enough to take on the harshest of mountain conditions.
We loved the Bergtagen Jacket enough to include it in this edition of the Outdoor 100, and we’re big fans of these trousers that pair with it as well.
“Fjällräven have also taken particular care with the cut of the Bergtagen Trousers, making sure that there’s full articulation at the knees and at the crotch.”
They’re made from Fjällräven’s Lite Eco fabric which is a blend of 65 per cent recycled polyester and 35 per cent cotton. Now this fabric is tough enough in itself, but as we said, the Bergtagen range is designed with gritty mountaineering in mind, and that’s why Fjällräven have decided to apply Corylon overlays in certain areas for reinforcement. It’s a fabric that’s basically impenetrable, so you can be sure that there’ll be absolutely no wear and tear on the knees, backside or instep.
