Adan Short – The Tech

Canadian mountain brand Arc’teryx are masters of immaculate construction, so it’s no surprise that the Adan mountain running short is beautifully put together, neatly articulated and, thanks to a careful choice of fabric, improbably light – just 101 grammes for a medium.

On paper they’re not particularly special, just a medium-length running short with a floating liner, but wear them and you’ll appreciate that a lot of thought has gone into the design.

It’s no so much that lightness is a major issue with a running short, but go for a run in the Adan Short and you’re immediately struck by the airy, unrestrictive feel – insert joke about naked running here, or rather don’t…

It makes them a great choice on warmer days, but they’re also a boon in showery conditions thanks to fast-drying performance. There’s a single rear pocket that happily takes keys and a gel or bar if needed.

We did have a couple of quibbles. The neatly-made, elasticated draw-cord is a continuous loop rather than a conventional one which makes it fiddly to tie and use – we’d be tempted to add a low-profile cord-grip or simply cut it in two. That said, the wide waist band is comfortable and secure.

Finally, the floating inner brief is quite tight and while it hasn’t quite happened to us yet, has definite taint-chafing potential. Definitely something to be aware of if you’re prone to such things.
