The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) is a famous mountain ultra marathon, extending across 106 miles, with an elevation gain of 10,000 metres. Having previously broken the course record for running it in 2019, and with the cancellation of the 2020 UTMB, ultra runner Pau Capell decided to set his sights on the trail once more, aiming to lay down a new fastest known time in a solo attempt with no competitors.
In this short film, The North Face follows Pau through the ups and downs of his journey around Mont Blanc, crossing France, Italy and Switzerland. With the clock to race against and having to run right through the night, it’s a film filled to the brim with tension and emotion.
The UTMB is considered one of the most challenging trails in the world, so getting such an up-close insight into what it takes to tackle it makes for a pretty unique viewing experience.
A bit of a side note here, but what you’ll also see in this film is the first outing for the North Face’s new carbon-plated shoes. If you’re keen to learn more about them, check out our The North Face Flight Vectiv field test.
