News | 66°North Reveals Ljósufjöll Collection with Photographer Chris Burkard

Long-running Icelandic brand 66°North has just revealed its second clothing collaboration with photographer Chris Burkard. Burkard – in case you didn’t know – is world-renowned both for his outdoor imagery but also for his athleticism. In fact, just last month he placed fourth in the Silk Road Mountain Race, one of the toughest bikepacking races in the world.

Named Ljósufjöll after one of Iceland’s many volcanoes, this new collection is a nine-piece men’s and women’s range that’s purpose-built for exactly those kind of extreme adventures. Made for autumn and winter, Ljósufjöll features muted colourways of browns and earthy tones that combine function with peak to pub wearability.

“We wanted to bridge the Ljósufjöll collection into winter. The goal was simple – build a light and active insulation system head-to-toe that will keep you outdoors for longer when the cold starts to creep in”, says Chris. “By accessing some of the best materials and fabrics on offer, we created something warmer and lighter than I’ve ever used. In Iceland it’s always about fitting in your movement whenever the weather gives you a window. These clothes are built for that window when the lines are blurred, and the season starts to shift.”

In true 66°North fashsion, the colourways take inspiration from the Icelandic landscape. All photos: 66°North.

Our first-impressions highlights from the collection include: the Ljósufjöll Shell Jacket which features a PFAS-free construction and recycled fabrics, the Ljósufjöll High‐Rise Jacket, which uses that toasty PrimaLoft insulation, and the Ljósufjöll Hoodie, which also features recycled materials and looks suited to all sorts of outdoor activities.

Helgi Óskarsson, CEO of 66°North, notes: “We wanted to build on what Chris and our team created with Ljósufjöll season one. This collection is about gear that adapts, it delivers performance but without compromising in style. It’s as much at home on a mountain summit as it is in the city, and that’s exactly where what 66°North stands for – blending function, durability and design into pieces people will reach for season after season.”
