Camelbak MultiBev 500ml Insulated Bottle | Review

Camelbak have produced a 2-in-1 sturdy multi-tasker for sustainable adventuring

Why We Chose Camelbak MultiBev 500ml Insulated Bottle: Multifunctional design, tough and durable build

The Camlebak MultiBev is a versatile insulated flask that’ll suit both daily life and life in the great outdoors. It’s incredibly durable, easy to carry and then there are a couple of tricks up its sleeve, including an integrated flask (which is surprisingly big) and a little flexi-lid for spill-free sipping.

Considering 16 billion disposable coffee cups are used each year – a rather staggering fact – if you want to avoid being part of that problem, picking up a flask like this would certainly be a good place to start.

Materials

The MultiBev is constructed with a 18/8 food grade stainless steel and is BPA, BPS and BPF free. It’s therefore both incredibly durable and robust, whilst being free from any nasty chemicals.

The base is constructed with a non-slip silicone to prevent it from sliding about on your camping table and there’s a grippy powder-coat finish throughout the flask which, from our experience testing it, makes it very hard to scuff or scratch.

Design

Though there’s a 650ml version, the version we’ve looked at here is the 500ml bottle with a 350ml insulated travel cup. Thanks to its double wall vacuum construction, the bottle itself keeps liquids hot for 14 hours, and cold for 20 hours, while the 350ml cup, with its lid attached, will keep them warm for 3 hours, and cold for 6.

At the top of the bottle you’ll find a useful handle which is just the right size to attach to your backpack using a carabiner. Underneath this there’s a leaf-proof Pak Cap which is basically a tucked away rollup rubber lid which can be used with the cup to give you takeaway coffee style, spill-free sipping.

“It’s both incredibly durable and robust, whilst still being safe to use.”

The dimensions are 27.7 x 7.3 x 7.5cm (height, width, depth) so it’s small enough to fit in the side of your backpack, but big enough to carry a good amount of liquid to see you through most day trips. The colour options are similarly versatile including black, white, moss/mint, terracotta rose/ camelia pink, dune and navy.

Tester’s Verdict

Will Renwick, editor of Outdoors Magic

“While the design isn’t exactly that groundbreaking (we’ve all owned a flask with a built-in cup before, right?) the Multibev is still a nice bit of kit and it does what it’s supposed to well. If you want your coffee to still be pleasantly warm even when you’re getting towards the end of a day hike, this, I found, can be relied upon to do the job for you.

“Although you can’t stick the flask itself in a dishwasher (the cap, lid and cup are dishwasher safe, however) I did find it was still easy enough to clean with a dish brush. I found that no tastes lingered in it either – which is always good.

“It’s really tough as well, so it’ll withstand some pretty hefty drops and I expect will last years and years. That said, it’s also on the heavy side – you can certainly find lighter insulated flasks out there, like those from Hydro Flask, though admittedly not many will have that built in cup with a spill-proof lid!”
