Lifesystems Intensity 105 Headtorch | Review

A powerful, lightweight and cost-effective headtorch for the trails from Lifesystems

When a head torch weighs just 41g and fits inside an enclosed fist, like the Intensity 105 from Lifesystems does, it’d be easy to look at it once and immediately dismiss its lack of power without even testing it first. Something this small and lightweight surely can’t pack the appropriate level of punch can it? Well, despite the product’s size, you might be surprised to find out that nothing could be further from the truth. The Intensity 105 is in fact more than capable of lighting the way for you on your night-time adventures.

There’s a single white XP-G2 Cree LED here, one that can provide you with up to 105 lumens of light. Like all of the best headtorches on the market, the Intensity 105 of course allows you to adjust the brightness to a medium or low setting – saving your all important battery life, and potentially minimising the risk of temporarily blinding your companions by accident.

“Providing you with 18 hours of battery life when fully charged…”

The two smaller red LEDS on this thing are super useful for map reading without glare, while there are also two flash settings – ideal if you’re ever in a situation where you really need to be seen or have to signal an SOS because it’s an emergency situation.

Powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery, the Intensity 105 does away with ordinary batteries. Providing you with up to 21 hours of battery life when fully charged, the head-torch is juiced up via a USB cable which is provided.

Speaking as someone who’s fairly disorganised, and who often only remembers to charge power packs two minutes before going on an adventure, the fact this can hold its power for up to a year when left unused in a backpack is another tick in the win column. Also worth mentioning is the indicator on its side that will tell you when the power is running out by shifting from green to red – meaning you won’t be unexpectedly caught out by a black out.

Easy to carry, because it weighs hardly anything, with a nice comfortable strap and a light that’ll do the business for you whether you’re at camp or on the trails; we think the Intensity 105 from Lifesystems is a great little buy.
