Haglofs Eclipse GT Women | Review

A solid and reliable three season boot that just does the job well

According to Google, the UK isn’t due another total eclipse until 12th of August 2026. Thanks to the team at Haglofs however, you can now look at an Eclipse anytime you want. More specifically, you can look at the Haglofs Eclipse GT hiking boot; a leather footwear item for men and women that, if we’re being totally honest, is much better equipped for offering support and comfort on mid-length hikes than it is for floating up into the sky and blocking out the sun.

First things first, let’s talk about the protection you get from this. It uses a Gore-Tex system that’ll keep any water out, and the nubuck and suede leather panels have a fluorocarbon-free coating (good for the environment) to help prevent the outer materials from wetting out quickly and thus maintain breathability.

“The first thing that impressed me about these boots was the comfort level of the insole”

We always like a bellowed tongue on a boot, the extra fabric might add a tiny, tiny bit of weight and also might perhaps reduce ventilation, but we’d rather that than have little bits of dirt getting in and niggling every now and then.

Protection also comes from the midsole where there’s a gel under the heel for shock absorption and cushioning. This is complemented by a moulded, long lasting EVA foam insole as well – all useful stuff for any hiking on rough, rocky trails.

There’s good grip underfoot thanks to the boot’s rubber outsole and slight heel brake. Named AHAR Plus, its cleverly shaped 4 to 4.5mm lugs are designed to shed mud and dirt easily so they won’t clog up and decrease traction.

Throw the mid-to-high cut ankle for support and stability into the mix and you’re looking at the kind of boot that, if it was a person, would be the mate who always gets you home safely after you’ve overdone it at the pub.

A really solid, reliable three-season option that’s also a decent weight as well. Difficult to fault.

Tester’s Verdict

“The first thing that impressed me about these boots was the comfort level of the insole – it’s soft and bouncy. The second thing was the amount of support they offered my ankles without rubbing or constricting movement. I love the classic style of the Eclipse GT boots, their reliability underfoot as well, and the Gore-Tex fabric that makes them waterproof and breathable. A great mid-cut hiking boot.”  – Athena Mellor, OM Tester.
