Keen Evofit One Sandals | Review

A practical sandal from Keen that can keep your feet comfortable on the trail

Sandals can be divisive. Not, perhaps, quite as divisive as Brexit but still very much an item of footwear capable of splitting a crowd into two distinctly opposing binary camps. To paraphrase the old Marmite advertising slogan, when it comes to sandals “You either love them, or you hate them.”

But hold on one second. Maybe there’s a sandal out there that can bridge the divide, and reunite the people behind it. Maybe, just maybe, that sandal is the Evofit from Keen. It might sound like we’re overhyping a humble sandal, but when you begin to discover what this thing’s got in the locker you soon learn to appreciate that this isn’t your standard “Grandpa’s wearing socks and sandals down at the beach again” fare.

This product has been engineered with versatility at its heart, and there’s a general sense of adaptability here that, when taken outdoors, can only serve to elevate your experience of it. The clever Evofit mesh fabric, for example, essentially acts as a second skin, one that innovatively moves and breathes with your foot. As a result of this, you might find that once these comfortable sandals are on your feet – you’ll actually be reluctant to revert back to shoes or boots.

There’s an Aquagrip rubber blend outsole here that’s been designed to maximise traction in and out of water. What this effectively means is that whether you’re trekking over slippery rocks on the river or marching down muddy jungle trails, you’re not going to end up on your backside.

There’s also a flexible midsole, with TPU inserts, that provides enduring comfort underfoot, and a progression of Keen’s classic bungee closure system – a system that delivers a dependable level of security around the ankle.

Equipped to successfully take on a wide variety of outdoor activities, we think Keen’s Evofit One sits head and shoulders above rival products on the market. If sandals are your thing, you’ll love these.

You’ll find them in men’s and women’s versions, as well as in a variety of other colours including subtler blacks and greys if yellow isn’t your colour.

Tester’s Verdict

“I have to be honest. When I opened the shoebox containing the Evofit Ones, I did sort of lurch back slightly. Don’t see that as a criticism of the product in and of itself, instead take it as a reflection of my expectations at the time and how I’d had them hijacked. I’d lifted the lid, you see, thinking I was about to see another pair of standard, as you were, brown hiking boots rather than a pair of bright yellow sandals with bungee cord on them.

“After getting over my initial shock, I began to see the benefits of such a product. The nifty bungee cord appears to be really well implemented, and a really good way of keeping these things secure on your feet. The flexible rubber sole looks like it can take an impact, and the cardigan-soft upper means that as soon as you touch these you feel a weird inclination to touch them again almost immediately.

“A colleague of mine wore these on her recent trip to Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, and has since raved about how pleasantly cooling and breathable they were on hot days.
